Corporate Safety Director
As our Corporate Safety Director, Mike Flynn develops and provides technical and administrative direction on all safety and health policies and programs for Barnard, including developing and implementing safety training programs for employees. He oversees, monitors and updates safety programs for compliance with safety and health regulations, including hazard and risk assessments. He audits and publishes worker compensation claims and insurance claims and related information. He also works with senior management and project teams in hiring, developing and overseeing project safety staff and regularly visits all Barnard projects.
Mike is a Registered Safety Professional with the International Board of Environmental Health and Safety. His 25-plus-year career spans heavy civil, underground, and complex building projects, with training also as an electrician and air traffic controller. Since joining Barnard, he has provided leadership or supported Barnard teams that have earned national and regional safety recognition, including the 2017 Associated General Contractors of America’s Construction Safety Excellence Award in the Utility Infrastructure category, and a 2017 William H. Feather Safety Award Honorable Mention from the National Utility Contractors Association (NUCA) for the 500,000-1 million man-hour category. Barnard earned the 2016 William H. Feather Award in 2016. Mike has also been selected as an AGC Safety Professional of the Year twice.
