“We’re big enough to take on the biggest challenges, yet small enough to pay attention. People/clients want us back.”
Paul Franzen is responsible for Barnard’s day-to-day operations and long-range planning. He ensures that owners receive the best solutions to their complex problems and contract needs and that the teams, resources and equipment we offer them best match the work at hand. He routinely visits project sites, participating in Partnering meetings and constructability reviews; he interviews potential new employees and contributes to annual reviews of our in-house talent. Barnard has experienced steady growth and expansion into new areas under his leadership.
Promoted to President in 2000, Paul joined Barnard in 1990. He has more than 30 years of experience in the heavy civil construction industry. His career has taken him from working as a laborer, carpenter and equipment operator to overseeing safety, quality, value engineering, scheduling and personnel. Paul actually began with Barnard by interning while earning a degree in Construction Engineering Technology from Montana State University, where he graduated with highest honors. MSU’s College of Engineering recently honored him with a Distinguished Alumni Award. His areas of expertise first encompassed water and wastewater pipelines, and pumping facilities and later expanded into dam construction and rehabilitation, hydropower, oil and gas pipelines, environmental, tunneling and electric transmission work.
