Project Details

Population growth in the region served by the Peace River Manasota Regional Water Supply Authority led to plans for this new, 6-billion-gallon reservoir, which doubled the Authority’s resources. The project included construction of a new, off-stream, above-ground reservoir with a four-mile perimeter. The embankment is on average 37 feet in height and consists of compacted fill with a geosynthetic impervious membrane as well as a soil-bentonite slurry wall to prevent seepage. Construction also included: a perimeter seepage collection drain; a water supply inlet structure; a 66-inch raw water pipeline; a dual chamber gated outlet spillway tower; 54- and 42-inch transfer pipelines connecting Reservoirs 1 and 2; a 36-inch spillway pipeline; improvements to natural drainage; a new shell/gravel access road; and an extensive dam safety monitoring package -- electrical, instrumentation and Automated Data Acquisition System (ADAS).The project was closely monitored by Florida's Department of Environmental Protection.
