Project Details

The Dulce Lake and Lower Mundo Lake Dams, located on the Jicarilla Apache Indian Reservation in north-central New Mexico, were constructed in 1903 and 1969, respectively, for recreation and irrigation use. Barnard contracted in 1997 to modify the dams. The work at Dulce Lake Dam included excavation of the existing dam embankment and replacing it with a new dam topped with roller-compacted concrete. A 67-foot-deep cement-bentonite cutoff wall also was constructed to help control seepage beneath the dam. Mundo Lake Dam modifications included spillway improvements, outlet improvements, raising the existing dam seven feet, and construction of a cement-bentonite cutoff wall to control seepage.
